Message from the BBSA Board of Governors
Dear
Bloomingdale residents and BBSA members,
On
behalf of the BBSA board of directors we have combined forces with the Bloomingdale Parks Foundation and Bloomingdale Park
District to undergo a complete rehab of Springfield Park, The project is called ‘Aim for the Fences’. We have
already started the project and are now in the process of raising funds. We hope to start construction in the fall of 2010.
We
will be holding a viewing and presentation on the “Aim for the Fences” project on July 31st, 2009 at
the Oasis Pool (next to the JRC) from 7 to 9 PM.
The
park district will have life guards on duty so we urge you to bring the whole family!
Please
make plans on attending July 31st, 7 PM at the Oasis Pool! The showing of support for this project will have a
major impact on the future of baseball, softball and the rehab of Springfield Park for years to come.
The
Bloomingdale Parks Foundation will have a booth set up during Family Fest for a preview of the project on Thursday June 25th
from 3 to 10 pm and Sunday June 28th from 1 to 8 pm. Please stop by and say hello!
If
you want to make a difference in the future of Bloomingdale Baseball and Softball I ask you to step up and help in any way
possible. If you are interested in volunteering please contact me directly. Each one of you can make a difference!
Thank
you in advance and we look forward to seeing everyone July 31!

Quotes of the Week.
Sandy's fastball was so fast, some batters would start to swing as he was on his way
to the mound. ~Jim Murray, on Sandy Koufax
I was such a dangerous hitter I even got intentional
walks in batting practice. ~Casey Stengel, 1967
Baseball is an allegorical play about America, a
poetic, complex, and subtle play of courage, fear, good luck, mistakes, patience about fate, and sober self-esteem.
~Saul Steinberg
I see great things in baseball. It's our game - the American game. It will
take our people out-of-doors, fill them with oxygen, give them a larger physical stoicism. Tend to relieve us from being
a nervous, dyspeptic set. Repair these losses, and be a blessing to us. ~Walt Whitman
Baseball was made for kids, and grown-ups only screw it up. ~Bob Lemon
I don't want to play golf. When I hit a ball, I want someone else to go chase it.
~Rogers Hornsby
Baseball is a game where a curve is an optical illusion, a screwball can be a pitch or
a person, stealing is legal and you can spit anywhere you like except in the umpire's eye or on the ball. ~Jim Murray
During my 18 years I came to bat almost 10,000 times. I struck out about 1,700
times and walked maybe 1,800 times. You figure a ballplayer will average about 500 at bats a season. That means
I played seven years without ever hitting the ball. ~Mickey Mantle, 1970
Don't park in the spaces marked, "Reserved for Umpires." ~John McSherry
My dad taught me to switch-hit. He and my grandfather, who was left-handed, pitched to me everyday
after school in the back yard. I batted lefty against my dad and righty against my granddad. ~Mickey Mantle
Little League is
great because it keeps parents off the streets. –Yogi Berra
Life is like a baseball game. When you think a fastball is coming, You gotta be ready to hit the curve. - --Jaja Q
